Void Deck art gallery
The Void Deck Art Gallery is a signature programme of Social Creatives. It brings people together to create masterpieces. This approach is similar to the power of a paintbrush that connect colours to create beautiful paintings. The VDG was launched inline with Social Creatives birthday month as a form of celebration and self-initiated programmes. Corporate sessions and team building were later introduced.
Social Creatives initially started with the term Community Art Gallery in 2011. However, a government organisation does art and used the term Community Art Gallery a year later, for their project where drawings by children are hung on exhibition boards. As such, Social Creatives adopted the concept of Void Deck Art Gallery and with further focus of art messages over arts exposure with artistic and social impact.
The term Void Deck Art Gallery was also influenced by a CNN Article. Void Deck is a local Singaporean slang for "common lobby in neighbourhood residential flats (apartment buildings). The VDG is a free concept 24 hours accessible arts space.
Social Creatives has appeared three times on cover page news for our Void Deck Gallery efforts.

Social Impact
- We bring different groups together. We have organised sessions for children, welfare organisations, corporate groups and mainstream participants specifically and together. This include a sense of inclusion and integration of communities. We were once told by some expatriates that it is the first time ever they went to a neighbourhood area. - We offer participative volunteerism, engagement of participants and corporate team building through painting sessions and unique corporate social responsibility efforts - We collect stories and messages of the neighbourhood and of the nation through the artworks created through instilling a sense of communal pride - The Void Deck Gallery serves as a uniquely Singapore tourist attraction as featured on CNN Travel and Singapore Tourism website. - Revitalization of community spaces making it livable, vibrant and a sense of pride of residents of the area through heARTware of the surroundings Artistic Impact
- Adopting a triangular approach of mentor artist, budding artists and non-artists together. Artists are not just artists but also become facilitators or informal teachers to non-artists, this is a career development programme. Selected artists are invited to create their own artworks too. - To promote a sense of artistic appreciation to the masses - To educate the public about artistic styles, famous artists and artworks. - To promote non-profit usages of walls that could be used for advertisements but we use them for arts presentation and exhibition. - To create a ripple and lasting effect of tangible impact of community based public art.
